Mary Rau Brazeal

Mary Rau Brazeal passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026 at the age of 101, surrounded by family. Mary was born January 27, 1925 in Gretna, Louisiana. She attended Dominican High School and was a proud graduate of Loyola University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and a minor in education.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, John F. Rau, Sr. and Helen Rebenack Rau; her husband of 56 years, Robert Edward Brazeal, Sr.; and daughter, Mary Patricia Brazeal Chiasson. She was also preceded in death by her brothers John Frederick Rau Jr., Paul Joseph Rau, and Edmund James Rau.

Mary is survived by her children Ann Schleismann (Greg), Barbara “Bobbi” Hanson (David), and Robert “Eddie” Brazeal, Jr. (Debbie); her grandchildren, Susan Chiasson Danna (Russ), Eric Schleismann (Kelly), Kevin Schleismann (Cecilia), Adam Hanson, Erin Hanson-Pierce (Steve), and Jason Mangiaracina (Meridith); and nine great-grandchildren: Alana, Adelie, and Aiden Schleismann, Mason Danna, Archer “Archie” Hanson-Pierce, Eva, Katherine, Jason, and Matthew Mangiaracina.

Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass in the chapel at MOTHE Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, Louisiana, 70058, on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Westlawn Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Avenue, Gretna, Louisiana, 70056.
