Marvin Lee “Red” Huling Jr. passed away on Sunday May 28, 2017 with his family by his side and now resides peacefully in the presence of his Heavenly Father. Red was proceeded in death by his parents Marvin Huling Sr (Lettie), Madelyn & Johnny Lirette. He is survived by his wife Shan and was loving father to children Jason Huling (Lana), Jennifer France (Bryan), Christopher Huling (Stephanie), Brock & Zia McLarty; grandchildren Evan & Wyatt Huling, Ryder & Preston Fields, Starlie, Cyrus & Nora McLarty, Finn Oswald & Beaux Huling. Siblings include Jolene Mattingly (Brent), Mary Bliss (Jarvis) and Steve Huling (Sheila). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Red served in various capacities as a volunteer fireman, eventually becoming a full- time operator for Harvey Volunteer Fire Department and paramedic for West Jefferson Hospital. Concurrently Red served as Director of Operations for the New Orleans Health Department, EMS. During this time he earned his nursing degree resigning in 2004 to practice nursing full time. Red held nursing positions at Lakeland and Meadowcrest Hospitals followed by employment with Humana and Aetna. Red’s legacy is that he cared deeply for people providing care and comfort for all as evidenced by the footprint that remains in the areas he served. He is greatly respected as a fireman and medical professional mentoring many along the way. However Red’s family was his greatest passion, pride and joy. He saw the success of his children as his greatest accomplishment which was confirmation of his love and commitment. The things he loved most included fishing, playing darts, karaoke, cooking for friends and family while never missing an opportunity to share extraordinary stories. Red opened his home to many never expecting anything in return and never allowing anyone to leave hungry. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Saturday June 3 beginning at 11:00 AM followed by a Funeral Servicve from the Chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA 70058. A Fireman’s Procession will immediately follow to Westlawn Cemetery, Gretna, where Red will be laid to rest.
