Mrs. Marlyn Rhea Golmon Baham passed away Sunday morning (12/10/2017). She was born in St. Helena Parish near Amite City, LA, the daughter of Bertie Helena Miller & Archie Melton Golmon. She was a longtime resident of Gretna, LA, wife of local attorney, Lt. Colonel and jet pilot with the Air Force Reserve, Alvin G. Baham (deceased), and sister of the late Melton Eugene (“Gene”) Golmon. She is survived by her children Alvin Melton (resident Las Vegas, NV), Ivy Clay (resident Palm Springs, CA), and Gaylon Timothy (resident Gretna, LA), grandchildren Justin Timothy Baham, Michael Gaylon Baham & Ashleigh Elizabeth Baham, sister Mary Elizabeth Johnston Rauschenbach, and brother Latimore Smith. Rhea was a special lady who excelled at many things. Among her many talents, she was a high school basketball star, icon of fashion and style, and an amazing singer who once received an RCA singing contract. After finishing second in her class at Woodland High, she received a basketball scholarship to Southeastern Louisiana University and went on to attend business school in Baton Rouge. She led three fundraisers for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and later worked as a travel agent. and sold real estate at which she excelled. She was appointed by Governor Edwin Edwards to the Louisiana State Tourist Commission for a four year term where she traveled to promote Louisiana, including to Miami and Paris. Rhea worked locally for Edwin Edwards gubernatorial campaigns all four times. She also worked in other political campaigns, including for several judgeships in Gretna, and for Jefferson Parish District 1 Councilman Ricky Templet. Rhea was named Queen of the Pines in Greensburg, LA at age 17, and won the Fabulous at 45 beauty contest held by Givenchy at Maison Blanche, competing among 35,000 women. The Wake will be from 6.00 PM till 8:00 PM on Wednesday December 13, and visitation will be from 9:00 AM till 11:00 AM with service following on Thursday December 14. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM on December 14 at the St. Dominic Catholic Church cemetery in Husser LA (55720 LA 445, Tangipahoa Parish).
