Mae Simmerly Stumpf passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017 in Katy, Texas. She was born on October 22, 1918 in Liberty, Missouri to Virgil Vest Simmerly and Lilly Campbell Simmerly. Mae spent her youth in Bourbon, Missouri on her grandmother’s farm. She spent her teen years in Tucumcari, New Mexico. Helping our troops fighting abroad, Mae was a Rosie the Riveter during World War II. Mae was a realtor in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she lived for 65 years. She moved to the Katy area after Hurricane Katrina to be closer to her son. Mae loved gardening and she was an excellent seamstress. She had a passion for playing cards and often would get together with her friends in New Orleans for a spirited game of canasta. After moving to Katy, Mae spent many hours playing cards at the Katy Senior Citizens Center, where she learned to play Hands & Feet. She is survived by her son, Robert Stumpf and his wife Regina of Katy; and by her beloved granddaughter, Christine Stumpf of Katy. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, Louisiana. Inurnment will follow at the Westlawn Cemetery in Gretna, Louisiana.
