Willie Mae Neal Brewton, lovingly known as Mae, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Wynhoven Health Care Center in Marrero at the age of 90. Mae was born on August 29, 1926,
to the late Eugene and Flavia Neal. She is survived by her daughter Rebecca (Becky) and her husband Frank Reed; her 2 grandchildren, Jeffery and Katie Reed; and 2 great grandchildren, Bennet and Arden Reed; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Neal of Zachary; nephews, Andy Aucoin of Baton Rouge and Larry Aucoin of Land o’ Lakes, Florida; and a niece, Michelle Aucoin of Baton Rouge. She was preceded in death by her husband Herschel R Brewton; brothers, Lawrence, Ray and Joe Neal; and her sister Lillie Aucoin. She owned the Powder Box Beauty Shop in New Iberia from 1956 - 1972. In 1968, she moved to Harvey. In 1987, she was the recipient of the St Louis Medallion and Woman of the Year for her outstanding service and hard work at Holy Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Bridge City. In 1989, she retired from State Board of Cosmetology. In her later years she attended St Martha’s Catholic Church in Harvey where she resided. The family would like to give special thanks to Sheila Murphey and Frances Wellington, her hospice nurses, Deacon Les Vincent, and all the loving care she recieved from the St. Phillip’s nursing staff at Wynhoven for the past 4 years. They truly became our extended family. Her services will be held at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on July 20, 2017. Visitation will be from 11am to 1pm with Mass following visitation.
