Louis M. Minera

Louis, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and music lover, passed away on August 4, 2026 at the age of 76.

Born in Guatemala, Louis spent much of his life in New Orleans, a city whose culture and music became part of the fabric of his life. Throughout his life, he possessed an extraordinary energy and determination. A gifted athlete, he was an avid cyclist and du-athlete who found joy in challenging himself and staying active.

He had an enormous soft spot for animals. Dogs and cats fortunate enough to become part of his family were deeply loved and cared for, and his compassion wasn't limited to the animals who technically belonged to him. At one point, his family even discovered that he had been feeding a neighborhood raccoon—a story that perfectly captured the tenderness he had for creatures great and small.

Music was also a great passion of his. In his home, there was always music playing. Saturday mornings were infused with it, and he made sure there was a sound system in nearly every room of the house—even outside. He often sent people songs he thought they would enjoy, or simply because he thought the right song might cheer them up when they were down.

Above all, Louis loved his family.

He was the devoted husband of Elizabeth and the proud father of his two daughters, Jean and Jillien. He was deeply loved by his grandchildren, who will carry their own memories and pieces of their grandfather with them throughout their lives.

Those who knew him will remember his laughter, big belly laughs that almost always brought tears to his eyes, his love of Westerns and his uncanny ability to name all the actors and the shows and movies they'd appeared in, and his easygoing, peaceful presence that made people simply feel comfortable being around him.

He leaves behind his wife, Elizabeth; his daughters, Jean and Jillien; his grandchildren, his siblings, and the many friends and family members whose lives were made richer by knowing him.

Though his family feels his absence profoundly, they are grateful for the years they were given with him and for the stories, lessons, laughter, and love that remain.
