Louise Diaz Lyons

Louise Diaz Lyons, a homemaker and passionate volunteer, died Wednesday, July 12, 2017. She was 93. Louise was born in New Orleans, grew up in Gretna, and had lived in Metairie for 45 yrs. She was a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church. Louise was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Charles Cavanaugh Lyons, and her son, Charles C. Lyons II. She was the daughter of the late Mariano P. Diaz and Ida Volmering. She had been a member of many organizations, some of which were the Irish Cultural Society, Ulster Project New Orleans, Deutsches Haus, German-American Culture Center, Gretna Historical Society, and Deutsche Gesellschaft. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 24, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 610 Sixth St., Gretna. Visitation at the church from 9:00 AM with a Mass beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her honor preferred St. Dominic Catholic Church, 775 Harrison Ave. New Orleans, LA 70124 or Southern Dominican Province, 1421 North Causeway Blvd., Ste 200, Metairie, LA 70001-4144. The family would like to acknowledge the exceptional care shown to Louise by her caregivers: Patricia Motsoane and Wanda Patterson of Visiting Angels. MOTHE FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangements.
