Lorella Josephine Champagne Morvant passed away peacefully on July 16,2026. Born September 30, 1930 to Arsene and Zeolide Champagne of Raceland, La, where she went to Baudoin Foret School, then Raceland High. She moved to New Orleans and married her late devoted husband of 60 years Percy Morvant. They lived in Metairie for 30 years and then moved to Waggaman, LA. She is preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Ronald J. Champagne and Roland R. Champagne.
She is survived by her children, Craig Morvant (late Pam, Joyce) Karen Morvant Elkins (late Horace), Nelson Morvant, Dana Morvant (Betty), eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A devoted homemaker, Lorella was noted for her ability at an early age as a master seamstress who possessed the gift of transforming fabric into works of art. She had an eye for color, fit, and flair and could design and execute complex patterns. Her specialty was wedding gowns, and she often attired the entire wedding party. She also applied her skills to drapery, upholstery, quilting, needlepoint, and crochet.
Lorella’s life was guided by her deep faith. A member of Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, she was active in the Altar Society and served as a lector during mass. She received the Order of St. Louis IX Medallion in 2013 for outstanding service to her parish.
The family would like to thank her compassionate, devoted sitters, Gwen, Patricia, Quiana, Brionka, Stephanie, Marie, Bernetta, and Maggie, and the staff of Compassus Hospice and Lake Villa House.
Services will be held at St. John Paul II Catholic Church *Our Lady of the Angels*, 6851 River Road, Waggaman, LA 70094 https://jpiiwestbank.org on Thursday, July 23, 2026. Visitation will begin at 8:30 AM followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA. 70001. After interment, all are welcome to attend a reception to be held at the New Orleans Elks Lodge No. 30 at 2215 Cleary, Avenue, Metairie, LA.
