Lois Sampey Dufrene, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, affectionately referred to as “Maw Maw Du,” entered eternal rest on June 24, 2025, at the age of 94. Born on July 4, 1930, in Raceland, Louisiana, Lois lived a life marked by love, faith, and dedication to her family and community.
A 1947 graduate of Kohn High School, Lois married the love of her life on April 7, 1948. Together, they built several successful businesses, including L & E Wireline in Buras, LA, L & E Food Store, and Lois Dufrene Real Estate in Belle Chasse, where she worked alongside her daughters, Stacey and Sue. Lois was honored with an award for being the top realtor in the region, a testament to her dedication, integrity, and tireless work ethic.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Eurice A. Dufrene; her daughter and son-in-law, Susanne and Charles Latham Sr.; her parents, Harry and Viola Sampey; her brothers, Ted Sampey and Otis Sampey; her sister-in-law Betty Sampey; and her great-granddaughter, Isabelle Lois.
Lois leaves behind a loving legacy in her children: Otis Dufrene (Jeannine), Curt Dufrene (Gwen), and Stacey Dufrene (Roger); and her dear sister, Dorothy Martin. Lovingly known as “Maw Maw Du,” she was the cherished grandmother of Cherie Dufrene, Shannon Dufrene, Charles Latham Jr. (David), Christie Virgil (David), Rachele Dufrene, Natalie Becnel, Curt Dufrene Jr. (Crystal), Konrad Becnel, Mishalene Wasmer (John), Maegan Constant (Brennan), and Kristen Becnel. She was also blessed with many great-grandchildren: Haydn, Emily, Katie, Kellie, Claudia, Rylan, Claire, Kadence, Alyssa, Adalyne, Sienna, Beau, Estelle, Brennan Jr., Kai, and Kruz, as well as great-great-grandchildren: Rowan, Sayler, Kaisen, Cainsley, and Crue. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Brenda Boudreaux for her compassionate care and unwavering support during Lois’s final days.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at 9:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Belle Chasse. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
