Leonard R. “Bert” Bertolino peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the age of 97. Beloved and devoted husband of Rita Mae Romano Bertolino for 64 years. Son of the late Giovanni Bertolino and Seraphina Barone Bertolino. Brother of the late Joseph Bertolino. Loving father of Katherine R. Blum (Dan), Leonard R. Bertolino, Jr., Gerard A. Bertolino (Kevin J. Grice) and Lawrence G. Bertolino (Sharon L. Becknell). Beloved grandfather of Lauren N. Bertolino and Allyson B. Bouffanie (Bryan). Loving Uncle Bert to many nieces and nephews. Leonard was born in New Orleans, LA and resided in Gretna, LA. He graduated from Tulane University, Class of 1941, with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. During World War II, he served as a Lieutenant in the United States Navy. His tours included Commanding Officer of the USS YMS-20 in the European Theater and as Executive Officer of the USS Competent (AM-316) in Pacific Theater, earning 7 Battle Stars. Leonard was a member of the Italian American Society, VFW of Gretna and Theta Golden Agers Club. He was a lifelong Tulane and Saints enthusiast. The family would like to extend a sincere appreciation and thanks to Adrienne Triplett for her loving care. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Monday, June 26, 2017 from 10AM until 1PM.
