Leona P. Declouet

Leona P. Declouet went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 12, 2026 at the age of 75. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cal Declouet; parents, Benjamin Walker and Emma Gumms Steward; step-parents, Lucille Walker and Robert Steward; sisters, Shirley Prestly, Beatrice Pierce, Emma Gumms, Patrica Paterson, Vishandes Walker, and Debra Walker; brothers, Paul Armond, Kevin Walker, Benjamin Walker, Jr., Abraham Gumms, and Larry Pierce.

Those left behind to cherish her memory include: her son, Thomas Walker; daughters, Sabrina Butler, Nicola Wicker, and Samantha Butler; sisters, Lorrian Polly, Patti Wilson, Viola Gumms, Carlette Walker, Donna Crawford, Mary Gumms, and Betty Williams; brothers, Warren Pierce, Jeffery Walker, Bobby Gumms, Robert Gumms, Herbert Gumms, and Joseph Gumms; her Goddaughter, Mary Gray, along with 19 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and other loving relatives and friends.

Leona was a lifelong resident of the Westbank and spent much of her career working in the hospitality industry. She was recognized and awarded a Letter of Commendation from the Commander of the Naval Air Station, Joint Reserve Base of New Orleans (in Belle Chasse), for her commitment and exceptional work ethic. Leona was a devout Christian and was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation from the First New Testament Missionary and Educational Baptist Church for her dedication and guidance with their Vacation Bible School. She was "Johnnie" when she was playing pool and was a member of the NOLA APA (American Poolplayer’s Association) since 2005 and never missed a chance to cheer on her New Orleans Saints. While her death is sorrowful, her life and legacy will be celebrated.

Family and friends are invited to gather at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Friday, May 29, 2026 from 10 AM to 11 AM. Services will follow in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be with her family in the Evening Star Cemetery, 817 Grefer Street in Harvey.
