Leon Francis Maurer, Jr. passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 23rd, 2026, at the age of 90. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on July 3rd, 1936 to the late Felicia and Leon Maurer, Sr.
He is the husband of the late Shirley Pichoff Maurer; the stepfather of Robert Joseph Bourgeois (Debbie); the grandfather of Amy B. Guidroz (Dustin), Robert "Joe" Bourgeois III (Kristy), John L. Bourgeois (Ashley); and great-grandfather of Sarah E. Guidroz, and Noah M. Guidroz. He is also survived by his nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends. He was predeceased by his sisters, Julia "Julie" Lemarie, and Janie Maurer.
A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, and proud resident of Timberlane Estates in Gretna for over 54 years, Leon graduated from De La Salle High School. After high school he attended both Loyola and Tulane University and earned degrees in Engineering and Chemistry. Leon began his professional career as a plant manager with Hunt/Wesson Refinery. He also worked for Vopak Industries. Leon was successful and well respected as an Industrial Manager in the New Orleans area.
Leon was loving, compassionate, and most of all a very caring person to all. He enjoyed spending time outdoors on his "ranch" on the Northshore, maintaining the property and tending to his horses. However, his true passion was spending time with his loving family and friends. Leon was unique and irreplaceable, well respected and liked, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
His spirit and tender nature will remain in the many memories of his cherished friends and family until they meet him again.
The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the outstanding care provided by Heart of Hospice.
