Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men”. Mark 1:17
Leon “Tookie” Bourgeois has made his last cast on July 6, 2017. His journey began on March 31, 1925 as the son of the late Alice Creppel Morris Bourgeois and Desiret Bourgeois. Husband of the late Dorothy Guidry Bourgeois by first marriage and the late Catherine “Granny” McAlpin Bourgeois by second marriage. Daddy of Anthony Bourgeois (Ann), Daniel Bourgeois (Cathy), Patricia Demoll (James), Pamela Creppel (the late Jimmy), Enelda Coate (Ronnie), Aline Perez (T.J.), Johnny Bourgeois (Amaryllis), Tammy Buras (the late Martin) and the late Mary Creppel (Gus) and Edward Bourgeois. Step-dad of Shirley, Wanda, Karen, Celie and Rodger. Popa of 38 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren. Brother of the late Albert Morris, Leomie Adams, Nita Buras, Andrew Morris, Alcide Morris, Sidney Morris and Ernest Bourgeois.
His legacy is in his passion to live for God and his creations: to trap, hunt, fish, sing, play the guitar, commercial fishing, building flat boats and spend time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed the years that he served his community as a volunteer fireman with the Boothville-Venice Volunteer Fire Department. In his 92 years, he has lived in Strikerswood (a small community on the banks of the lower Mississippi River), Tiger Pass, The Village (Venice) and Boothville. He touched the hearts and lives of so many in his life. While he will be sadly missed, his life and legacy will be celebrated.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at First Baptist Church of Venice, 127 Ellzey Lane in Venice on Monday, July 10, 2017 from 1 PM to 4 PM. Services will follow, officiated by Pastor Steve McNeal. Interment at Our Lady of Good Harbor Mausoleum will take place at a later date.
