Lawrence Leo Stansbury, Sr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at the age of 100. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on September 11, 1925 to the late Mary and James Stansbury.

He is the husband of the late JoAnna Saladino Stansbury and the father of Lawrence (Stan) Stansbury (Victoria). He is the proud grandfather of 6, great-grandfather of 9 and great-great grandfather of 9.  He is preceded in death by his siblings, James, Frank, Laura, Eunice, and Tina.  He is survived by his nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.

A native of New Orleans and proud resident of Marrero for over 65 years, Lawrence began his professional career as a mechanic for Beemis Bag Company-New Orleans. He then served in the Navy during World War II as a machinist for the Seabees. Upon his return he married JoAnna Saladino and returned to Beemis until their closure September 1971. At that time, he and JoAnna both returned to school and earned their GED's. He then worked for the Jefferson Parish School System as a maintenance technician until his retirement.

During his golden years, Lawrence spent his time giving back to his community by doing the Lord's work. At The St. Joseph The Worker Catholic Church of Marrero, Louisiana, he was involved with the Knight's of Columbus Council #9384, The Good Shepherd Ministry, Young at Heart, Eucharistic Minister and the Fundraising Committee. The Veterans of Foreign War Post #7307, AmVets and American Legion Post #222 were all beneficiaries of his generous nature. He also enjoyed volunteering with The Waggaman Golden Ages and Infant Jesus Golden Ages, Wynhoven Health Care Center, Meals on Wheels and the Italian/American Society of Jefferson.

His spirit and tender nature will remain in the many memories of his cherished friends and family until they meet him again.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 455 Ames Boulevard, Marrero, Louisiana on Thursday, July 30th, 2026, at 11 a.m. with visitation from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The rosary will be said at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Avenue, Gretna, Louisiana 70056.
