Lawrence "Nunny" Joseph Sinatra

July 13, 1939 — March 13, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lawrence “Nunny” Joseph Sinatra on Friday, March 13, 2026, at the age of 86. Nunny was born and raised in Algiers, Louisiana, and was a lifelong resident of Gretna.

Nunny is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years, Georgette O’Dwyer Sinatra; his children, Chris Sinatra (Shelly), Gregory Sinatra (Stacy), Rebecca Sinatra Smith (Shane), and Lawrence M. Sinatra (Mary); and his sister, Phyllis Sinatra Hebert. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren who will cherish his memory, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and loyal customers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Leonard Sinatra and Josephine Falcone Sinatra; his sister, Frances Sinatra Tingstrom (Sidney); his granddaughter, Sophia Catherine Sinatra; and his stepson, Marc Matherne.

Nunny proudly served a short active-duty stint in the U.S. Naval Reserves before attending barber school. During his long career as a barber, he owned and operated VIP and Sinatra’s Barbershops before later working with Chuck & Gordon’s, Dale’s, and most recently Ricouard’s. He was once said to be the oldest living barber on the Westbank, working right up until the day of his passing. Nunny took great pride in his work and truly enjoyed his customers—offering not just a haircut, but also sports talk, laughter, a handshake, and a promise to see them next time.

Nunny was an active member in the Italian American, Lucky 13, and Quarterback Clubs for many years. He loved LSU sports, especially baseball, as well as Saints football, golf, hunting, fishing, and blackjack. However, his greatest joy was watching his sons and grandsons play baseball.

For many years, Nunny served as an usher at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Gretna. A devoted Catholic who loved Jesus deeply, his family finds comfort in the belief that he is now with the Lord and that they will see him again one day.

Family, Friends, and Customers of Nunny’s are respectfully invited to attend his services at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway in Harvey. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026, from 9am until 11am, with Mass at 11am. Interment will follow at Westlawn.
