Obituary

Lawrence “Larry” John Rivet, Jr., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at the age of 67. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 11, 1959, to the late Marion King and Lawrence “Pie” Rivet, Sr.

Larry was the beloved father of Cherie Rivet, Nicole Rivet, Macy Landry (Austin), Chase Rivet, and Christian Rivet; grandfather of Dallas Rivet, Lexis LeBlanc, Trey LeBlanc, Cheye Rivet, and Leo Landry; and great-grandfather of Phoenix and Logan. He was the brother of Dale Rivet, Julie Rodriguez (Roger), and Ty Rivet (Jen). He is also survived by his former wife, Maria Rivet, with whom he shared three children and many years of life together, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and cherished lifelong friends.

A proud native of Westwego, Larry graduated from West Jefferson High School in 1977 and spent most of his life on the Westbank. In 2005, he and his family put down roots in Tickfaw, and for the last ten years, he called Loranger home. It was there that he built his house by hand, taking pride in every detail and creating a place that was truly his own.

Larry was the definition of a jack of all trades. Throughout his life, there was very little he couldn't do with his hands. From building boats and painting cars to staining concrete and tackling just about any project that came his way, he had a natural talent for working with his hands and a determination to figure out how to do anything he set his mind to.

Above all, Larry was a kind, humble, and compassionate man with a heart of gold. He was the type of person who would give his last dollar to someone in need without ever expecting anything in return. He loved to travel and was happiest with the open road ahead of him, making memories along the way with the people he loved most. One of his greatest passions in life was racing cars, and nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his boys at the racetrack.

Larry had a way of touching the lives of everyone he met through his generosity, genuine kindness, and one-of-a-kind sense of humor. He never needed much to be happy, and the memories he created with family and friends will be treasured for a lifetime. A man of strong faith, Larry's love and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him until they meet again in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Larry's memory to the Leukemia Research Foundation in support of continued research. Contributions may be made online at https://leukemiarf.org/donate/.
