Laura Mistretta Cuicchi

Laura Mistretta Cuicchi, of Terrytown, passed away on January 24, 2024, at the age of 81 with her family by her side. She was born to the late Sam and Angeline Mistretta, July 21,1942, in Donaldsonville, Louisiana.  She was the beloved wife of Jim Cuicchi. They lived and raised their family in Terrytown where they were active members of Christ the King Parish community. 

Laura had a full life and was blessed with loving friends and family. She graduated from Louisiana State University with a BA in Education and taught and influenced many students throughout the years.  She valued time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as Grammy.  She enjoyed travel, and Laura and Jim embarked on many travel adventures over the years, both domestic and abroad. The family beach trip to Orange Beach each summer was always the highlight of her year.  Laura was a proud New Orleans resident who loved everything about the city, and she was an avid fan of LSU sports and the New Orleans Saints!  

Laura is survived by her husband of 56 years, James Edward Cuicchi and daughters Laurie Coniglio (Mario), Jennifer Stansberry (Lee) and Jamie Burmaster (Brook).  She is also survived by her eight grandchildren Madison, Brennan, Collin, Taylor, Bennett, Mackenzie, Bryce and Emily.  She was preceded in death by her late brother Frank Mistretta (Rita).

The family is grateful for the compassionate care Laura received from Dr. Christos Theodossiou and his staff at Ochsner Medical Center as well as St. Margaret’s Hospice. 

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a funeral mass on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 11am at Christ the King Church, 535 Deerfield Road, Terrytown. Visitation will begin at 9am.  Interment will follow immediately after Mass at Westlawn Memorial Park in Terrytown.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Laura at the Lieselotte Tansey Breast Center at Ochsner (http://giving.ochsner.org/goto/Laura_Cuicchi)  or Christ the King Catholic Church.
