Obituary

Kathy Diana Bell Champagne, born April 8, 1952, in Ft. Seal, Oklahoma, passed away on April 24, 2026, in Gretna, Louisiana. She leaves behind a legacy defined by love, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends.

Kathy was a woman of remarkable versatility and strength. She could accomplish nearly anything she set her mind to, excelling in diverse pursuits from construction work to driving a freight truck. Yet, among all her talents, one of her greatest joys was hunting alongside her beloved father—a pastime that brought her immense happiness and a deep connection to family tradition.

Her personality was marked by a profound love for her family, which she held to the core of her being. Those fortunate enough to know Kathy understood that friendship with her was steadfast and enduring, standing firm through both good times and challenges. She was also known for her eclectic interests: a passion for music, the art of needlepoint, and a candid acknowledgment of smoking, a habit she fondly attributed to her brother Gary’s influence.

Kathy’s proudest accomplishments were not measured in personal accolades, but rather in the flourishing lives of those she loved. She delighted in witnessing the growth and success of her family, celebrating their achievements in life and spirit with heartfelt pride.

A cherished memory shared by her family highlights her warmth and nurturing nature—her love for cooking, especially for dad. One memorable occasion was when she prepared fried chicken gizzards for him; his admiring comment to her mom was, “Why don’t yours taste like this?” remains a treasured moment. Even in her final days, Kathy’s loving heart shone through as she made apple dumplings for her daughter, Lori.

Kathy bravely battled health challenges for many years and ultimately lost her physical struggle. Yet, it is with comforting faith that we remember she has won her spiritual war.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Glennis Bell; her mother, Virgene Bell; and her husband, Robert Eubanks.

Kathy is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Edward Champagne; her children, Charles (CD) Currie and his wife Jennifer, and Lori Ann Crain and her husband Andy; her step-sons, Edmond Champagne and his wife Lisa, and Craig Champagne and his wife Shaunta; grandchildren Anthony Shepheard, Tyler Shepheard and his wife Melanie, Noah Currie, Greyson Currie, and Craig Champagne Jr.; great-grandchildren Adelyn Shepheard, Ava Shepheard, and Weston Currie; her brothers Gary Bell and his wife Barbara, and Tyrone Bell and his wife Sandra Borden; as well as a host of nieces and nephews who grieve her loss and celebrate her life.

The visitation will be held on April 30, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, followed by the funeral service in the chapel from 3:00 to 4:00 PM at Harvey - MOTHE Funeral Homes, LLC, located at 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, Louisiana, 70058.

As we gather to honor Kathy Diana Bell Champagne, we remember a woman whose spirit, dedication, and love touched the lives of all who knew her. Her legacy endures through the family she cherished and the memories she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace.
