Kathleen Mary Murray Cook, 53, passed away on June 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories. Born on September 28, 1971, in Jefferson, Louisiana, Kathy lived a life full of devotion to her family and friends. Her warmth, humor, and generous spirit touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Kathy was the beloved daughter of Edward John Murray Sr. and Betty Murden Murray. She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Edward H. Murray and Vivian Geissler Murray, and Felix D. Murden and Louise Gassen Murden. She is survived by her two sons, Ethan and Alex Cook; her sister, Kelley Murray Rafidi; her brother, Edward John Murray Jr.; and her three nieces, Alexis, Avyn, and Adley Rafidi.
Kathy had the biggest heart—always ready to help, to listen, and to love. She was known for her incredible cooking (though she would be the first to say she hated the cleaning part!). Her stubbornness was frustrating and could drive you crazy, but her infectious laugh, heartfelt texts, and deep desire for everyone around her to be happy made it impossible to stay mad at her for long. As a daughter, she taught her parents patience through her spirited nature. They will miss her every day but are comforted by the countless memories of her love and laughter. As a mother, she taught her children the values of unconditional love and being true to oneself. As a sister, she was a best friend and a listening ear. She was, above all, someone who brought joy to everyday moments, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who loved her. Her spirit, though unyielding in life, will continue to inspire all who knew her to love fiercely, live fully, and never take “no” for an answer.
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at St. Rita of Cascia in honor of her resilient spirit and enduring love.
The Church will open at 10:30 a.m., with Mass beginning at 11a.m. A reception will follow at The Knights of Columbus Hall, where family and friends are invited to share stories, laughter, and memories of Kathy.
