Kate Popic

Kate Agneza Popic, a beloved matriarch and cherished member of her community, passed away peacefully at her home in Belle Chasse, LA on July 7, 2025, at the age of 91. Born on September 11, 1933, in Brijesta, Croatia, Kate brought warmth and love to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Throughout her life, Kate was known for her passion for cooking and baking, sharing countless meals filled with love for her family, particularly for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her ability to create memorable culinary experiences was matched only by her love for tending to her garden, where she found great joy. She also cherished watching her favorite Croatian television programs, always with a glass of wine in hand.

Kate's legacy is carried on by her children, Mario Popich (Tihana), Ivan Joseph Popich (Wanda), and Eduard Popich (Cecilia). She was blessed with six grandchildren: Natasha Marie (Robbie), Eduard Andrew (Erin), Jennifer Lynn, Nickolas Anthony (Rami), Ana Marie, and Adam Skobelj. Additionally, she embraced her step-grandchildren Kristofer, Kristina, Jose, Rolando, and Roberto, along with her great-grandchildren Carter, Mila Kate, Brooklyn, Cameron, Ellie, Luka, Arden, Graham, and Leo, all of whom were a source of immense pride and joy.

Kate is also survived by Katija, Frances, Ivana, as well as many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will fondly remember her warmth and kindness.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 62 years, Anton Nedjeljko Popich, her parents Antun Popić and Kate Bažalo Popić, and her siblings Nikola Popić, Anto Popić, Mato Popić, Grgo Popić, and Ivan Popić, and Marija Popić Prlaguzić.

A visitation will be held on July 14, 2025, from 9 AM to 11AM at Mothe Funeral Homes, 2100 Westbank Expy, in Harvey, LA. Funeral Mass will begin at 11AM. Internment will follow immediately at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cemetery in Belle Chasse, LA.

Kate Popic's spirit and love will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Her legacy of love, family, and tradition will continue to inspire those who knew her.
