Joyce Dupre Bourgeois

July 22, 1940 — April 29, 2026

Marrero

Joyce Dupre Bourgeois passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family on April 29, 2026. Her special angel on earth Christine sang "Lord Receive Your Servant," and with that mom took her final breath. She was the beloved wife of the late Oliver "Brock" Bourgeois. Daughter of the late Eugene Dupre and Angel Dinet. Preceded in death by her brothers Oristide "Steve" Dupre and Farrell "Pat" Dupre, and her sisters Margie Vicknair and Georgia Mae "Blackie" Boudoin. Her las surviving family member is Rosalia "Rose" Duet. Mom looked forward to those weekly calls to her sister. Joyce is survived by her sons Oliver "Boo" Bourgeois (Janet), Theo "Hap" Bourgeois (Mindy), and her daughters Christine "Sissy" Bourgeois and Kimberly "Kim" Bourgeois. Grandmother of 8 grandchildren: Travis (Melanie), Corey, Alyssa (Jessica), Olivia (Krysten), Aaron (Gabrielle), Cole, Katherine (Grace), Emily (Elizabeth), and 8 great-grandchildren.

She was a devoted nurse for over 30 years at Jo Ellen Smith and Meadowcrest Hospital after her long career of nursing. She devoted her services to others through the National Shrine of Blessed Fr. Xavier Seelos, C.Ss.R. She became the administrator in 2003. Most often you would find her praying with others in their time of need. She would never judge a person on their appearance. She treated homeless and rich just like Jesus would. "Caring, loving, and compassionate" for each one that came through the shrine and the ones she came across on the streets. Joyce loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved road trips. Her daily routine was with her daughter Christine as both would do several hours of prayers and rosary for the ones they promised to pray for.

Joyce's legacy will live on in the family and friends she held so close in her heart. The value she instilled was love and perseverance and the importance of always staying connected to Our Lord and Blessed Mother. Mom would say "We can't control the winds, but we can adjust the sails."
