Joseph Albert Cespedes passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023 after a long battle with mental illness and addiction. Joe was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi on September 13, 1990. He grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho, graduated from Hillcrest High School and attended Idaho State University. He moved to New Orleans in 2011 to be closer to his many cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. Joe is survived by his mother, Laura Yowell Cespedes; his father, Ernesto Cespedes; his brother William Cespedes; and half sisters Elizabeth Andree Arendt, Amy Cespedes Glisan, and Ann Cespedes. Prior to the onset of his bipolar disorder, Joe was a kind, funny, friendly and well mannered teenager who loved golf, baseball, fly fishing, skiing and snowboarding. We hope that this is the way that he will be remembered. His parents would like to thank all of the mental health professionals, counselors, sponsors, and family members who helped Joe throughout his troubled periods and who gave him hope of recovery until the very end.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial services at Mothe Funeral Home, 1300 Vallette St. in New Orleans on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 2:30 PM. Visitation will be held from 12:30 PM until the start of the service. Interment will be private.
