Johnny Ray Hinson, born in Big Spring, Texas on February 28, 1958 and a lifelong resident of Buras, Louisiana. He passed away on November 15, 2024, after a courageous battle with liver cancer. He was the beloved husband of Rene Hinson for 43 years and the son of the late James R. Hinson and Charlene Hinson. Johnny was a proud father to Jonathan “Red” Hinson (Cristi) Known as Poppy John to his grandchildren, Kali Rae’, Maci (Chris), and Grayson. He is survived by his siblings: James, Jr., Jay (Angie), Jeannine Danos (Jody), and Jennifer (Jude), along with numerous nieces and nephews: Rache, Caria, Lacie, Rachel (Pio), Danica (Dimitri), Danielle, Jacob, Jena, and the late Joseph. He also leaves behind great-nieces and nephews: Rowen, Gavin, Emma, Ezra, Ella, Halle, Demi, Nash, and Tripp. He is joined by his favorite furry companion, Addie. Johnny dedicated many years to his career with Popich Brothers as a crew boat captain and later became the owner/operator of Hinson Bros. Marine. After retirement, Johnny was known to be a simple man, he enjoyed spending his time outdoors, planting trees, watching the History Channel and Kali’s sporting events.
