John W. Umbach Jr.

John W. Umbach Jr. passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the age of 71. John is preceded in death by his parents, John L. Umbach Sr. and Athalee Umbach; brothers, Ralph Umbach and Neville Walker. He is loving father of Daniel (Monica Hanson) Umbach. He is devoted grandfather of Michelle Kessner (James). John is great grandfather of Taylor Kessner. He was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. A lifelong resident of New Orleans, John was a New Orleans Firefighter with Engine 9 for over 30 years. He was also the owner of Belle Chasse Carpets for 42 years. He was devoted to his family; had many friends and never knew a stranger. John was always willing to lend a helping hand to any in need. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Visitation on Thursday , January 19 , 2017 from 11:00 AM until 1:30 AM at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA. A Funeral Mass will follow at 1:30 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel, Harvey, LA. Interment St. Bartholomew Cemetery in Algiers.
