Joanna Marie Sampey Garrett passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the age of 68. She was born in Metairie, Louisiana, on August 28, 1957, to the late Gertrude and Enic Sampey.

She is the wife of Carl Garrett; the mother of Shane Mabry (Nissan), and Jason Garrett (Tiara). She is also survived by her siblings, Sylvia and Joni, her nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.

A native of the Metairie and New Orleans areas, and proud resident of Waggaman for over 36 years, Joanna graduated from L.W. Higgins High School in 1976. After high school she earned some college credits. Joanna began her professional careers at Ochsner Medical Records for at least 14 years, Home Depot for a couple of years, and Walmart as a cashier. Joann was successful and well respected in her careers in the New Orleans area.

Joanna was loving, compassionate, and most of all a very caring person to all. She enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and relatives. She enjoyed playing bingo.

Her spirit and tender nature will remain in the many memories of her cherished friends and family until they meet her again.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral mass in the chapel at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 7040 Lapalco Boulevard, Marrero, Louisiana, 70072 on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 10 a.m. with visitation from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. Interment will follow at a later date.
