Jewel Erber Albarado, beloved mother and sister, entered peacefully into Heaven at the age of 89, on January 25, 2026. She was surrounded by her loved ones as she continued her journey to the arms of Jesus.
Born on December 2, 1936, Jewel spent her life devoted to her three girls and family, leaving behind a legacy of love and fascinating stories of her worldly travels. Survived by her loving daughters, Donna (the late Tommy), Darlene (the late Gary) and Anna (David). Jewel was a proud Grandmother to her 10 grandchildren: Melissa (Daniel), Bradley (Sarah), David II (Nicole), Thomas, Jr. (Colette), Katie (Todd), Ashley (Eric), Stephanie (Chandler), Joshua (Rachal), Alexandra (Daniel), and Jacob. Jewel was also a proud Great Grandmother to Gavin, Madison, Joseph, Molly, Daniel, Max, Olivia, Dominic, Eli, Luke, Abram, Anthony, Bowen, Micah, Bennett, Belle, Braxton, Lily, and Silas.
Jewel is also survived by her loving sister, Susan (John), Godchild, Erica, her loving sister-in-law, Beverly (the late Carlo Albarado), and devoted niece and nephew, Carla and Marc. She is also survived by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, as well as many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Albarado, Jr., and her parents, John and Mary Belle Erber.
Jewel was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was a native of Gretna and graduated from Gretna High School. Jewel then became a resident of Marrero for 66 years.
Jewel was a teacher at Visitation of Our Lady School in her early years, which she enjoyed so much. Then life challenges took her to accounting work. She retired from the private practice of LSU Dentistry.
Jewel was a long time parishioner of Visitation of Our Lady Church and was a devout Catholic and raised her girls accordingly. She was an avid member of the Harvey Golden Age Club of Jefferson Parish for many years. Jewel loved being with people, socializing with her friends and had a zest for life. She cherished her time with family and enjoyed cooking and having her family over, especially cooking her annual crawfish bisque, leaving behind a legacy of love. She enjoyed traveling to all parts of the world. She always had great stories to tell of her adventures.
Jewel’s life was a testament to her faith, family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
Visitation and Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 4, 2026 at Visitation of Our Lady Catholic Church, 3500 Ames Blvd, Marrero, LA, with visitation from 10am to 12 noon and mass at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Hook & Ladder Cemetery, 1000 Lafayette St., Gretna, LA.
