Jennifer Kay Hargis

Jennifer Kay Hargis, born January 2, 1947, passed away on October 31, 2026.

Jennifer will be remembered as a hard worker whose life reflected steady dedication and care for others. She grew up in Algiers and graduated from Behrman. For 24 years, she worked at 2nd Parish Court in Gretna, where her commitment and reliability were part of the legacy she leaves behind. In the last 16 years of her life, she made her home in Terrytown.

Those who knew Jennifer will remember the way she put others before herself. She found happiness in simple and meaningful pleasures, including time spent along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and working in her garden, places and pastimes that brought her peace and joy.

Jennifer is survived by her son, Gary Hargis, Jr. She is also survived by Gary Hargis, Sr., from whom she was divorced. She leaves behind a loving extended family, including her brother Ray Anthony Adler; nephews Eddie Adler, Scott Adler, Carl Gegenheimer, Jr., and Ben Gegenheimer; as well as her niece Jessica Chaeffer. May their memories of Jennifer’s kindness, strength, and generous spirit bring comfort in the days ahead. She was preceded in death by her parents, Florence Ruby Adler and Ray Anthony Adler; and her nephews Luke Gegenheimer and Anthony Hargis III.

Jennifer Kay Hargis will be remembered with love for her hardworking nature, her selflessness, and the care she gave to the people around her. Her memory will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
