Jeannette "Nette" Morlas Holliman

Jeannette “Nette” Morlas Holliman, 96, of Farragut, Tennessee, passed away Thursday, September 24, 2026, three days shy of her 97th birthday. She remained spirited to the end.

Nette was born September 27, 1929, in the living room of her family’s home on a dairy farm in Marrero, Louisiana. The baby of the family, she revered her parents, who raised her an observant Catholic with her siblings Whitmel, “Sis,” and “Laney.” They lived in half of a duplex farmhouse that stood as a landmark on the West Bank for decades; her double first cousins lived next door. She was forged by the ethos of a vanished time: work was harder, days were simpler, and family was always present—and central to who you became. In recent years, her thoughts often returned to those times and especially to her family.

On June 7, 1952, she married Myron Doyle Holliman; at her passing, their marriage was in its 75th year. Early on she worked for Kellogg and State Farm; later she focused on the home, volunteered through the Church, and returned to office work on a temporary basis. She was a careful steward of the household finances. Nette held high standards for herself and her family, and she took pride in how she and her home were presented. Her devoted attention to multiple generations brought her to a number of places over the years: New York City, Atlanta, Metairie, North Texas, Oakland, and Tennessee’s four major cities. She had a passion for travel, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Doyle; son, John (Brenda); grandchildren, John, Craig (Mayuko), and Matthew; sister, Marilyn Morlas; nieces, Nancy Byrd (Mark) and Caroline Clark (Joseph); double first cousin Victor Morlas (the late Jacqueline); and numerous grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bertrand and Caroline Morlas; brother, Whitmel Morlas (the late Madeline); sister, Elaine Ory (the late Thomas Ory, Sr.); nephew, Thomas Ory, Jr.; double first cousins Simone Morlas and Noel Morlas (the late Mary Joyce); and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Mothe Funeral Homes, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, Louisiana, on Monday, October 5, 2026, from 9:30 AM until 11 AM. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 11 AM. Interment will be in Metairie Cemetery, New Orleans, Louisiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in Jeannette’s memory.
