Jane Gillis Pitre, devout Catholic, loving wife, mother and grandmother went to her eternal rest on Friday, March 24, 2017 surrounded by her loved ones. Jane was born on September 1, 1943 in New Orleans. She is survived by her devoted husband of over fifty-two years, Judge Robert A. Pitre, Jr. and her two daughters, Michele Pitre Milano (Marc) and Melanie Pitre Vigelis (R.J.). Devoted grandmother to her six grandchildren, Robert and Gillis Klotz, Joel and Mia Milano, Rachel and Patrick Vigelis. Sister of Claire Gillis Howson.
Preceded in death by her parents, Frank Coleman Gillis and Marie Seput Gillis Accardo. She was a committed adorer at St. John Bosco over twenty years, Eucharist Minister at St. Pius X and active in the Pro-Life ministry. The Pitre family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Daniel Karp of M.D. Anderson and Dr. Jayne Gurtler.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 610 Sixth Street in Gretna on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 8 AM to 10 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow. The celebration of Jane’s life will continue with interment and a traditional jazz procession at Westlawn Memorial Park, 1225 Whitney Avenue in Gretna.
