James Antonio Viera

James Antonio Viera, 66, passed away due to medical complications on November 14, 2022, at his home in Metairie. Visitation will be begin at 12:00 followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 pm Saturday, November 26, 2022, at Mothe Funeral Homes-Algiers, 1300 Vallette, New Orleans. James was born on February 21, 1956 to his parents, Dr. Raul and Iris Viera in New Orleans. He was a 1974 graduate of Shaw High School. He joined the US Navy in 1975 and was attached to the VP-16 in Jacksonville, FL. He was deployed in 1977 to Keflavik, Iceland, where he served as part of a special force unit until honorably discharged in 1978. He was preceded in death by his father Dr. Raul J Viera and his brother Dino Viera. He is survived by his mother Iris, his brother, Raul (Mella) and his sister, Iris Viera Szachacz along with a nephew Raul Joseph Viera, and 2 nieces, Elizabeth Viera Anderson and Ana Maria Szachacz. James never skipped the opportunity to entertain those around him with his humor and wit. He will be sorely missed by friends and family.
