New Orleans has lost a beloved member of its community with the passing of James Peter McGaughey, Sr, fondly known as Jimmy. He was a kind, fun-loving man who touched the lives of many. Born on January 23, 1953, in his beloved city of New Orleans, Jimmy brought joy to everyone around him.

Jimmy's career was filled with dedication and hard work. For 25 years, he was a valued employee at Manny's Supply before retiring from New Orleans Cold Storage. Jimmy's commitment and loyalty were admired by his colleagues and friends alike.

While Jimmy had a successful career, it was his relationships that truly defined him. As a father and grandfather, he excelled beyond measure. Spending time at the camp with his loved ones brought him immense joy. Fishing with his grandson Corbett was one of his favorite pastimes, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

In addition to their fishing trips, Jimmy also took pleasure in trips to the casino. He loved the thrill of games and never missed an opportunity to test his luck. Moreover, Jimmy had a charisma that made him an exceptional host. His New Year's Eve parties and Mardi Gras celebrations were legendary gatherings filled with laughter and camaraderie.

Jimmy will be sorely missed by his family and friends for his incredible personality and generous nature. As an amazing father, grandfather, brother, and friend, he touched the lives of all those around him.

On December 20, 2023, tragedy struck when James Peter McGaughey Sr passed away peacefully at home in Chalmette. Although our hearts are heavy with grief at his loss, we find solace knowing that he is now reunited with his late wife Liza Bosworth , Mother June Fracie Coll, Father Jerry A McGaughey, and brothers Freddy McGaughey and Calvin Coll.

To honor Jimmy's memory and celebrate his life richly lived, a Memorial Gathering will be held on December 27, 2023, at Marrero - Mothe Funeral Homes, LLC located at 7040 Lapalco Blvd, Marrero, LA 70072. The gathering will begin for immediate family at 8:00am and 9:00 am to 1:00 pm for family and friends.

Jimmy is survived by his loving son James P. McGaughey Jr. and wife Sandy, his stepdaughter Beth Bosworth, and his cherished grandson Corbett J. McGaughey. He leaves behind a brother Jerry A. McGaughey and wife Emily, sister Helen McGaughey Rauch and husband Warren, sister Cynthia McGaughey Patterson and husband John II. Jimmy's niece Jerilyn M Smith and late husband David, nephew Jeffery McGaughey, nephew Bryan Rauch and wife Tracy, nephew Randy Rauch and wife Lisa, godchild Tina Hicks and husband Stacey, niece Katrina Patterson, and nephew John Patterson III also mourn his loss.

Jimmy will forever hold a place in our hearts through the memories we shared with him. His love for life and the joy he brought to those around him will continue to inspire us. In our collective grief, we find comfort knowing that Jimmy's spirit lives on in our hearts and that he has left an indelible mark on each of us.
