James "Jimmy" Brandt

James “Jimmy” Robert Brandt, Jr. entered into eternal rest on Thursday, April 9, 2026, at the age of 71. He was born in Marrero, Louisiana, on July 19, 1954 to the late Rita and James Brandt, Sr. He was the beloved husband of Christaine Balestra Brandt for 48 years; the father of the late Catina Marie Brandt; the brother of Margaret B. Romaire (the late Richard), Vivian B. Abadie (the late Albert), Linda B. Baker (Mike), and the late Rose B. Verneuil (Joe); the brother-in-law of John R. Balestra, Jr. (the late Cheryl); son-in-law of the late Marie and John R. Balestra, Sr. He is survived by his nieces, nephews, cousins, and wonderful lifelong friends.

Jimmy was a resident of Marrero, Louisiana, and later made his home in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, for over 10 years. Jimmy attended Immaculate Conception and graduated from Shaw High School, in 1973. Jimmy began his professional career at Cargill in Westwego, where he worked for 44 years, retiring in 2024.

Jimmy was a loving, compassionate, and most of all a very caring person to all. He loved spending time with his wife and traveling to Houston to watch the Astro’s play baseball and also attending concerts in Las Vegas and Mississippi.

Jimmy was unique and irreplaceable, well respected and liked, and will be deeply and dearly missed by all who knew him. His spirit and tender nature will remain in the many memories of his cherished family and friends until they meet him again.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of MOTHE Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, Louisiana 70058 on Tuesday April 21, 2026 at 11:00 am with visitation on Monday, April 20, 2026 from 5 pm to 9 pm, and on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 from 9 am to 11 am. Interment will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Avenue, Gretna, Louisiana 70056.
