John William Jackson Sr, age 90, was born on June 23, 1936. He passed away peacefully at his home in Ponchatoula, Louisiana on July 4, 2026 surrounded by family. He was born in Waveland, MS and raised in the Irish Channel in New Orleans, LA. He later relocated to Terrytown, LA with his wife to raise their four children and eventually retired in Ponchatoula, Louisiana.

John served in the Army and was stationed in Germany post WWII. He worked as an iron worker and a shrimp fisherman. He founded Terrytown Boxing Club, where he served as president and Head Coach. He was a devoted husband and father and an amazing grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his son John William Jackson Jr. (Ellia); his grandchildren Jason Rooney, Jayna Berthelot (Justin), Jayme Caminita (C J), Joseph Caminita III (Tonya), Charlie Jackson, Jennifer Jackson, Jordan Jackson, Mia Jackson, Marley Jackson, and Jeanne Denning (Patrick), and several great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Shirley Jackson; his parents Elmer Jackson and Hazel Turncotte Jackson; his siblings Joyce J. Bird and Elmer "Nunu" Forest Jackson Jr; his children JayLynn Jackson Wolf, Jolene Jackson Acy and Jay Paul Jackson; his son in law Allen Acy Jr. and his granddaughter; Jessica Jackson.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation and Mass at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expy. Harvey, LA. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am -11:00 am on Wednesday July 22, 2026. Mass will begin at 11:00 am with interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery in New Orleans, LA.
