Irma Marie Sanchez Seminary, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt passed away on October 29, 2025, at the age of 93. Known for her compassion for family and friends. Irma leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and service. Born in Belle Alliance, Louisiana, Irma dedicated her life to homemaking and cooking some the best Louisiana dishes becoming favorites to family, friends and customers. Irma was happiest when dancing, fishing, and playing card games with loved ones. Her home was always welcomed to everyone, where a warm home cooked meal was waiting. Irma is survived by her loving children: Dawn Gomez Lauland and Merlin Jerome Seminary (Shannon) of Marrero, Louisiana, she was a proud grandmother of Danielle Urrata (George) and Merlin Joseph Seminary, and her 3 great-grandchildren: Jude Anthony Urrata, Dani Marie Urrata, Elle Marie Urrata. She also leaves behind her brother Robert “Bobby” Sanchez (June), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Irma is preceded in death by her beloved husband Merlin Seminary, husband Stanley Gomez, her parents, Nicholas and Yvonne Cavalier Sanchez and her siblings: Gertrude “Trudy” Nelson, Ruby Cotten, Herman “Buddy” Sanchez, Floyd “Pecky” Sanchez, Ella Mayfield, Yvonne LeBlanc, and her son-in-law Byron Lauland. We want to thank Mrs. Dina Silva for her years of unwavering and loving care given to Irma. We also give thanks to Dr. Joplin, Ms. Morva Lee and Jaylyn Johnson at Heart of Hospice for their care and years of Mrs. Janet Adams, Eucharistic Minister. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 10:00am-1:00pm at Our Lady of Visitation Catholic Church, 3500 Ames Blvd. Marrero, Louisiana 70072, followed by a Funeral Mass at 1:00 with Father Colin Braud presiding. A graveside service will follow at Hook and Ladder Cemetery, 1000 Lafayette St. Gretna, Louisiana 70053 with a Repast immediately afterwards. Irma’s absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched. May her beautiful soul rest in eternal peace.
