Iris Ann Breaux Bailly, 91, passed away peacefully at her residence on Monday, October 3, 2022, with her loving daughter Karen at her side. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Berthold J. Bailly; sons William Melling and Karl Melling; parents Claiborne Breaux, Sr. and Gladys Roussel Breaux; and brother and sister-in-law Claiborne Breaux, Jr. and Alma Breaux. Former wife of the late Christopher Melling.
Iris is survived by daughter Karen Melling Leger (the late Larry); Joni Bailly Ledbetter (Rick), Sharon Bailly, and daughter-in-law, Jane Melling.
Grandmother of Brandi Barney (Thomas), Jennifer Trahant, Andrew Melling (Natalie), Jeffery Melling (Lacey), Anthony Federico, Trey and Stephen Ledbetter, and Sean Peeples (Christina).
Great-Grandmother of Brittany, Victoria, Brandon and Michael Barney, Layla Saulsberry, Bradley, Bentley, and Karlee Melling, Mia Belsom, Nola Federico, Dominic and Samantha Peeples.
Aunt of Ronald and Brian Breaux, Sr., (Kelly). Great-Aunt of Brian Breaux, Jr. (Jennifer) and Jason Breaux (Dana). Great-Grand Aunt of Landon, Logan, LaiKyn, Madilyn, Kelsey, and Layton Breaux. She is also survived by a host of other relatives and friends.
Iris served as Principal Broker of both Century 21 Action Realty and Bert Bailly Realty for many years. She was beautiful, intelligent, confident, graceful and stylish in appearance. With a sparkling personality, she was always the life of the party. Iris loved sewing, cooking, gardening, dancing, decorating, and hairdressing, as well as many other interests. She was extremely talented and would tackle any project successfully.
She made Christmas Eve a special event, serving traditional dishes plus her signature dishes of shrimp and mirliton casserole, divinity fudge, and red velvet cake.
She was an entertaining storyteller & enjoyed sharing the stories of her happy childhood.
One of her favorite memories was of the trips taken with Bert, Joni and Rick, to Europe and the United States, especially enjoying Italy, Switzerland, San Francisco, and Lake Tahoe.
Iris was a devout Christian who loved her family and was truly blessed in her 91 years of life. She will be dearly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the viewing at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey LA 70058 on Sunday, October 9, 2022, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM, and resuming on Monday, October 10, 2022, from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM. Service will begin at 11:00 AM with Pastor David Ford officiating. Burial following at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Avenue, Gretna LA 70056.
The family would like to thank the Barney family, Pam and Allan Holley, Jane Melling and family, Ronald Breaux, family friends Melodie Rakes, Linda Roth, Alice McEwen, and all who assisted in Iris' care in the last few years.
