Irene G. “MeMe” Chifici, entered eternal rest on Monday, July 13, 2026, at the age of 92. Former wife of the late Robert E. Smith. Daughter of the late Anthony T. Chifici and late Christinia B. Chifici. Loving and devoted mother of Rondell Smith Timphony (late David J. Timphony). Grandmother of Jennifer Timphony Maise (Dustin). Great Grandmother of Adrianna Irene Maise (Sweetheart) and Gianna Elizabeth Maise (Sweet Pea-Baby Girl). Sister of the late Virginia Bengert (Louis), Merline Whatley (Clyde), Tanya Frassie (Owen), Anthony “Bubby” Chifici and Catherine “Cathy” Chifici. “MeMe” was Born, raised and lived her life in Algiers, La. She worked at the Louisiana Dept of Health until she retired in 1986 to help take care of and raise her granddaughter, Jennifer. She was a devoted, caring and loving giver to all her family, especially to Jennifer, Adrianna, Gianna and all her godchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews that she helped raise. She loved to dance, listen to music and take casino trips with her daughter. In her early years she wanted to be a Nun, but she met a man. She was an angel on earth and is now a very special angel with huge wings for the life she lived. She was a big visitor/supporter of the World War II Museum; in lieu of flowers if you would donate to them in memory of Irene. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Passages Hospice for their care and support of “MeMe”.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Visitation at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 3103 Eton Street, Algiers, Louisiana on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, beginning at 9AM until 11AM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church on Wednesday at 11AM. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, 1225 Whitney Avenue, Gretna, Louisiana 70056.
