Hurved “Herb” Anthony Price, a native of New Orleans, and resident of Gretna for the past 17 years, passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, February 12, 2023, surrounded by his adoring family. Herb was married to his loving wife, Lucille Fischer Price, for 58 years. He was born on May 5, 1936, to the late Clarence A. and Mary Josephine Kelly Price and the youngest of their 8 children. Herb was preceded in death by his siblings Clarence “Bud,” Myrtle Emenes (Emile), Hurveline Chestnut (John), Alvin Sr. (Shirley), Gloria Ayo (Hugh), Louis (Joyce) and Raymond (Joyce), his first wife Beverly LeBlanc Price, and his beloved godchild John “Johnnie” Chestnut, Jr. He is also survived by his five children Toni Horvat (Nick), Wade (Jennifer), Jim, Kristin & Lauren (Chris), and his grandchildren Kyle Cuzzort, Lydia Price, Erik Dugas, Valerie Horvat, Drew Price and Layla Lahr. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Besides his family, Herb’s active passions were golfing and officiating sports. He umpired, and trained/assigned baseball umpires at the high school level for 40+ years, officiated high school basketball for 40+ years and umpired collegiate baseball for 20+ years. As a golfer always in pursuit of “shooting his age,” he was the longtime Tournament Director with NOGA (New Orleans Golf Association) and active with WeGeaux (a Westbank golfing group). After graduating from Martin Behrman High School, he proudly served in the US Army in Korea, where he continued to showcase his athleticism as a member of the US Army I Corps basketball and baseball teams, and played across Korea and in surrounding countries. A founding member of the Lucky 13 Social Club, he shared his joy of family, friends, athletics, and dancing at any of the innumerable functions they hosted. Relatives and Friends of the Family are invited to attend the Visitation at St. Cletus Catholic Church, 3600 Claire Ave., Gretna, LA on Friday, February 17, 2023 from 11 AM until 1 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 PM and Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Gretna, LA. Mothe Funeral Homes handled arrangements.
