Harold Virgil Buras, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025 after a life full of faith, hard work, and love. He was born on January 31, 1931, in Boothville, Louisiana, to Clyde Walter and Irene Chanove Buras. For the past 57 years, he called Lacombe, Louisiana, his home.
A proud veteran, Harold served his country honorably as a machine gunner in the United States Army. After his military service, he dedicated 25 years to the State of Louisiana as a lock operator before retiring. Never one to rest, Harold went on to run his own bush hog and grading company — a testament to his tireless work ethic and independent spirit.
Harold was a man of many talents and passions. He loved playing his guitar, trawling for shrimp, and fishing — pastimes that reflected his deep connection to the land and waters of Louisiana. More than anything, he was a man of deep faith, who found joy in sharing the message of Jesus with others. His faith guided every aspect of his life and left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Marie Buras, and by his son-in-law, Felton Hudson. He is survived by his four daughters: Mary Ann Perry (Dean), Darlene Ruth Hudson, Sylvia Marie Parker (Ciro), and Nancy Jean St. Germain.
Harold is also survived by his brothers, Robert Daniel and Clyde Roger Buras, and his sister, Evelyn Rosemary Delrie (the late Richard). He was the brother of the late Russell Bruce, Marilyn Cashio, Ruby Magee, Ralph Buras, Gerald Buras, Burk Buras, and Sylvia Buras.
He is also survived by his stepbrothers Roland Williams (Helen), Hancel Buras (Carol), and Basil Buras (Gwendolyn); and stepsister Rosedale Barthelemy (Wayne). He was also the stepbrother of the late Lilly Bell Buras, Dexter Buras, Melissa Buras, Pearl Jackson, Diane Palmer, and Burkel Buras.
He leaves behind a proud legacy of seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom carry his spirit forward.
Those who knew Harold will remember his ever-present smile, contagious laugh, and welcoming nature. He never met a stranger and brought joy wherever he went. He was a man of integrity, generosity, and unwavering strength — in both body and spirit. His commitment to living a life of honesty, hard work, faith, and kindness touched everyone he encountered.
Harold taught us all the value of putting Christ first, the rewards of a strong work ethic, and the importance of living true to your word. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
