Gustave August Flattmann Jr.

January 24, 1924 — January 16, 2017

Gustave August Flattmann Jr. passed away on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the age of 92 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Gustave is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nathalie Palmer Flattmann; sister, Mae Younger; brothers, Henry and Elwood Flattmann. He is loving father of Susan Laigast (Cliff), Gustave A. Flattmann III (Janet). He is devoted grandfather of Michelle Zaidain (Randy), Kim Laigast , Cliff Laigast IV (Jamie Pearce), Trudy Flattmann ( James Thomas), Becky Flattmann. Gustave is great grandfather of 9 great grandchildren. He is brother of Rita Budge, Mildred Couvillion Hinyup, Maureen Provenzano (Carl). He was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. His generosity through woodworking brought joy to many people. He was the proprietor of the Pelican Gulf Station ( which was the oldest Gulf service Station in the USA) in Algiers point. Gus was a WWII Army Air Corps Veteran where he saw action in the Pacific Theatre. He was also a member of the Santa Maria Knights of Columbus Council # 1724 in Algiers.The very first Mass of St. Andrew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church was celebrated in Gus and Nat's home June 1952. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Special thanks to his long time caregivers, Emma Bridges, Shirley Williams and Nurse Lisa, Dr. Helm, and all of his caring staff with Cannon Hospice. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Visitation on Friday , January 20 , 2017 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM with a Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 AM all at St. Andrew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 3101 Eton Street, New Orleans. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Gretna.
