Gregoria H. "Goya" Mejia

April 24, 1935 — June 26, 2025

Terrytown

Gregoria H. “Goya” Mejia, age 90, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, in LaPlace, Louisiana. Born on April 24, 1935, in Lima, Cortés, Honduras, Goya lived a long, vibrant life surrounded by family, tradition, and the unmistakable warmth of her spirit. She was the heart and soul of her family. Her presence lit up every room, and her memory lives on in the little things: the comforting scent of Olay lotion, the jar of chocolate chip cookies always ready on her kitchen table, and her firm belief that Sundays were made for cleaning. She had a deep love for music that filled her home, a special connection to her plants and birds, and a strong pride in her Honduran roots and joys she passed on to all who knew her. Goya adored crossword puzzles and never missed an episode of Caso Cerrado. Her dislike of sleeves was legendary she simply wouldn’t wear them and she could often be found outside on her bench, offering a warm smile to anyone who passed by. She was a woman of strength and faith, both caring and firm in her values. A true matriarch, Goya was a listener, a disciplinarian, and a quiet force of love and wisdom who led by example and shaped generations with her grace. She is survived by a large and loving family who will carry her legacy forward with pride and affection. Her children include:-Rodolfo Sarres, and his children Ernesto and Jasmina Sarres (along with their mother Evelyn);-Julio A. Romero and his children Lizbeth and Randy;-Jose Osman Mejia;-Mario A. Mejia and his wife Judy, with their children Mario A. Jr., Corinna, Elaina, Jessica, Elise, Adley, and Justin; -Hugo R. Mejia and his children Mara, Nadia, Nubia, and Hugo Jr. (along with their mother Maritza);-Aida L. Sabillon and her husband Enrique, with their children Marcelo, Yolanda, Roberto, and Osman; -Vilma G. Hernandez and her children Erick Hernandez, Alexis Martine and Angelica Harrell; -Marcelo I. Mejia and his wife Joanell, with their children Marcelo Jr., Mason, and Coby; -Miguel A. Mejia and his children Jamel and Sheena; -Oscar R. Mejia and his wife Juliana Cruz; -Francisco J. Mejia and his wife Deidra, with their children Keith, Sasha, Francisco Jr., and Graciela; -Yvonne M. Siguenza and her husband Jose R. Siguenza Sr., along with their children Jose R. Siguenza Jr. and his wife Lilian E. Maldonado; Ricardo A. Siguenza; and Emily G. Siguenza. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her and continue to inspire warmth for generations to come. She is clothed with strength and dignity and she laughs without fear of the future. Proverbs 31: 25. Que Dios la tenga en su gloria.
