It is with profound sorrow and heartfelt reverence that we announce the passing of Gloria Ann Jenkins, a beloved homemaker whose life was a testament to devotion, family, and a spirit enriched by simple joys. Born on September 18, 1939, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Gloria's journey came to a gentle close on April 11, 2026.
Gloria lived a life defined by love and dedication to those dear to her heart. Renowned for her warm presence and nurturing spirit, she found immense joy in spending time with her family, an embodiment of care that extended through generations. Her passion for cooking was matched only by the delight she took in sharing those culinary moments with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories that nourish the soul. Fond of shopping and an enthusiastic player of bingo, Gloria embraced these pleasures with a lively and engaging charm that endeared her to many.
Her familial bonds were both deep and enduring. Gloria was united in marriage for 56 years with her beloved spouse, the late John D. Jenkins, Sr., whose memory she cherished dearly. Daughter to the late Vivian and the late Birlie Bourgeois, she was the treasured sister of Birlie Bourgeois, Jr. the late John Bourgeois Sr. (Diane), the late Calvin Bourgeois, and the late Jimmie Bourgeois. These cherished family ties remained a cornerstone of her life.
The legacy of Gloria Ann Jenkins lives on vibrantly through her surviving children: Debra Hamdan (Tommy), John Jenkins, Jr., Ricky Jenkins, Lori Taquino (Todd), and Darren Jenkins (Mecalla). Her lineage flourishes in the spirits of her grandchildren—Brandy, Julie, Katie, Shane, Ashley, Darren Jr., the late Brandon, Kalon, Anthony, and Alainah—and in the bright futures of her great-grandchildren: Alaina, Trent, Jace, Elijah, Ellie, Braydin, Beaux, Bryn, and James. Gloria also leaves behind a loving community of nephews and nieces: Troy, Connie, and Barry; John, Scott, the late Todd; Jimmy, Travis, Dylan; the late Tammy, and the late Lisa.
To honor her life, services will be held at Mothe Funeral Home, Harvey, at 2100 Westbank Expy, Harvey, LA, 70058, where visitation will commence on April 17, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. The final farewell will be observed with a burial at Westlawn Memorial Park, 1225 Whitney Ave., Gretna, LA, 70056.
Gloria Ann Jenkins will be remembered not only for her unwavering commitment to family and home but also for the luminous joy she radiated through her everyday pursuits. Her enduring spirit enriches the lives of all who were fortunate to know her, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and unwavering grace. May she rest in eternal peace.
