Emma “Gladys” Nunnery, 95, passed away on Feb. 25, 2017, in Marrero, Louisiana. She was born Dec. 26, 1921 to Robert Warren Knight and Edna D Donnenfelser, in New Orleans. Known to most as “Gladys,” she attended McMain High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years, but spent most of her time raising her four children. For several years she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary - Knights of Columbus as well as a member and officer of the Theta Golden Age Club. Gladys spent many days enjoying meals with her friends at Dawabbit and New Orleans Food & Spirits. Everyone who knew Gladys enjoyed her laugh. They also knew nothing in the world was more important to her than her family. She is preceded in death by her parents; a husband, Woodrow W Held (d.1979); a son, Eric W Held (d.1967), and a daughter, Donna H Carpenter (d.1980); a sister, Melba K Deakle, and a brother, Robert W Knight, Jr. Gladys is survived by her husband of 31 years, Elden J Nunnery; her children, Kris A Held, Gretchen H Hegwood (Jerry), Cynthia N Duhe, and Bradley A Nunnery; six grandchildren, Shawn D LeBlanc (Alan), Erica C Cancienne (Ronnie), Dana D Buhler (Samuel), Chelsea O Gaspard (Quinton), Jerry W Hegwood, III, Kodi H Atkins (Shane); and nine great grandchildren, Samuel, Shelby, Jay, Chloe’, Emmie, Sophie, Caleb, Adelyn, and Rowen. Gladys is also survived by her youngest sister, Audrey R Donnenfelser MSC. Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 27, 2017. Visitation will be from 8am to 10:30am at Mothe’s Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA 70058. A Mass will be held at 11am at St. Cletus Church, 3600 Claire Ave., Gretna, LA 70053. The burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery.
