Gladys Louise Allen

December 3, 1941 — March 2, 2026

Belle Chasse

Gladys Louise Allen, 84, of Belle Chasse, Louisiana, passed away Monday, March 2, 2026.

Gladys was born December 3, 1941, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Henry and Doll Berry. She grew up in Alabama alongside her siblings, Bill, Bessie, and Johnny, and later spent time in Fort Walton Beach, Florida after the passing of her father.

In 1962, Gladys moved to New Orleans, where she built a life centered on family, faith, and hard work. She was the proud mother of Camilo “Paul” Bolio and Christine Bolio Hutcherson. Later in life, she married Guy Allen, and together they made their home in Belle Chasse.

Throughout her life, Gladys held a variety of jobs and was known for her strong work ethic and outgoing personality. She began working at the Five and Dime, later sold hearing aids, and spent several years as a cashier at Winn-Dixie. She also worked alongside her mother at a hamburger stand in Algiers. She eventually retired as a sales manager at Home Depot, where she enjoyed helping customers and connecting with people.

Those who knew Gladys will remember her vibrant personality and joyful spirit. Her love for God was an important part of her life, and she enjoyed singing and dancing, especially to country music and 1980s gospel songs. She had a natural gift for storytelling and loved making people laugh and smile, often with a playful or mischievous comment. One of her well-known sayings was, “You don’t mean it.”

Above all, Gladys cherished time spent with her family and friends and was always happy to see the people she loved.

Gladys is survived by her son, Camilo “Paul” Bolio; her daughter, Christine Bolio Hutcherson; her stepdaughter, Vickie Nelson and her husband, Fred Nelson; her grandchildren, Camilo Bolio Jr., Clayton Ostarly, Sarah Milam, and Joshua Bolio; her step-grandchildren, Jessica, Gus, and Joseph; her great-grandchildren, CJ Ostarly, Amelia Milam, and Isabella Ostarly; and her step-great-grandchildren, Christian, Elliot, Tristian, Sean, and Kathryn.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Allen, and her son, Alan Thompson.

Gladys will be remembered for her strong faith, joyful spirit, and the laughter and warmth she shared with everyone around her.
