Obituary

Gerald Joseph Buquet, “Monster,” age 86, a native of Houma and resident of Terrytown, passed peacefully on May 10, 2026.

He was the beloved husband of Halyna B. Buquet; father of Natalie Buquet Trahan (late Glenn Sr.), Stewart Buquet, and Brandy Buquet Williams (Lance); grandfather of Roger Trahan (Kristina), Glenn Trahan Jr., Courtney Buquet (Cameron), Cameron Buquet, Collin Williams, and Blake Williams; and great-grandfather of Elliot and Link. He was the brother of Judith Olivier and the uncle to loved nieces and nephews.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Carole Jean (Powell) Buquet; his father, Leon Buquet; his mother, Dorothy Blanchard Buquet; and his brother, Dwayne Buquet.

Gerald was a veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Marine Reserves. “Monster” lived an amazing and full life, lighting up every room he entered. His infectious laugh and colorful personality were truly one of a kind. He was a legend in the oilfield sales industry and proudly considered himself a “professional bullshitter.” This man was larger than life. He traveled the world, most notably on multiple fishing trips to Brazil, Alaska, and Mexico. He would fish from dawn until dusk because there was always “one more spot.”

He was a member of the Ring Masters Flying Club, where he enjoyed flying gasoline-powered model airplanes. Gerald was also an exceptional Louisiana cook who made a dark roux that would have made his momma proud. He was an avid collector of antiques and enjoyed attending auctions and estate sales. He was also a member of the ROMEOs (“Real Old Men Eating Out”), where he shared lively stories, showed off his Cajun French, and enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends.

Beneath his boisterous personality was a heart that loved fiercely, especially his family. He will be greatly missed, and the world will never be the same without him.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, Terrytown, La. on Saturday, May 23, 2026. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, please consider sharing a personal “Monster” story below, because we know there are too many to count. Donations may also be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA).
