George Allan passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026 at the age of 76 at West Jefferson Medical Center with family members by his side. George was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, son of the late George Wilson Allan, Sr. and Lucille Gauthreaux Allan. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Shira Allan Camardelle, and niece Sheree Camardelle and canine companion, Cassie. He graduated from Archbishop Shaw High School in 1967 and Southeastern Louisiana University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1971. He taught Social Studies for 41 years, 17 years at L.W. Higgins and 24 years at John Ehret High School. He retired from the Jefferson Parish Public School System in 2012. George is survived by his two brothers, Ronald (late wife, Sally) and Donald (Sue), nephew, Russell Camardelle (Jennifer), niece Nancy Camardelle Dominick (Chad), great nephews, Eric Camardelle and Kyle Camardelle (Taylor), and their children, Westyn, Jolie and Myla. George enjoyed making stained glass art, collecting coins and Mardi Gras doubloons and tools of all kinds. He also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe. Before retiring, George served as President for the Louisiana Council for Social Studies. He was in charge of the parish, regional and state Social Studies Fairs. He served on many parish and state Social Studies textbook and curriculum committees. Besides his family, his greatest joy was teaching and working with the students through National Honor Society, his U.S. History and AP Government classes and mentoring students through the We the People Competitions at the local, state and national level, winning recognition and many awards. Relatives, friends, colleagues, and former students are invited to attend the Memorial Mass in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expwy., Harvey, Louisiana at 11am on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Visitation will be held from 9am until 11am on Saturday, August 1, 2026. Interment will be private. Family and friends can view and sign the online guest book at www.mothefunerals.com.
