 Jesus called home his very faithful servant on October 18, 2023 at 5:35 am, our beloved Genevieve (Jenny) Marie Saladino Richard. Jenny (as she was lovingly known) passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter and son-in-law at the age of 80 years old.
The mercy of Jesus freed her from her short battle with cancer. She is now resting in peace released of her pain and suffering. Jenny was born December 11, 1942 on Pine Street in Marrero. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Nettie Breaux Saladino. At the age of 11, she moved to Garden Road in Marrero. After her marriage she moved two blocks away to 8th Street (off Garden Road) in Marrero.
On January 19, 1963, at St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, she married the love of her life. P.W. Richard. For the next 60 years, her husband P.W. continued to spoil her as her mother did her entire childhood. She was affectionately known as the “Queen”.
They shared 60 years of marriage together. From that union they had two children, Chris J. Richard and Sheila R. Breaux. To whom she instilled on her Faith in God.
She graduated from West Jefferson High School Class of 1961 and retired from the Jefferson Parish School System in 2005 after 25 years of service. She worked at Ames Elementary as a Cafeteria Monitor, L.W. Higgins High School as a Librarian Clerk and at Homedale Elementary as a Secretary.
Jenny had many passions in her life. She joined many organizations and ministries in her church and community. She was a member of the Italian/American Society of Jefferson, the Marrero Lion’s Club, the Red Hats Le Bon Ton Divas (The Good Time Ladies), Mary’s Helpers, Infant Jesus Golden Agers, the Waggaman Golden Ages, Member of the Lafitte and Westwego Poker Keno Groups, SJW Young at Heart, St. Joseph Alter Cookie Baking Ministry, Neocatechumenal Way, Aux. Member of the Legions of Mary, and the Homedale Family. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Marrero. Her Ministries were CCD Teacher, Lecter, Eucharistic Minister, Minister to the Sick and Shut Ins, SJW Good Shepard Ministry, Adult Gospel Choir and Romans 8 Guitar Group. Her sentiment in life was “Love to it Hurts”.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband of 60 years, P.W. Richard; her two children: Chris J. Richard (Laura) and Sheila R. Breaux (Chris); seven grandchildren: Leonardo S. Richard, Richard M. Breaux (Krystal), Amanda B. Petit (Mark), and Allison M. Breaux (Joshua Mangold), Joshua Hurd, Matthew Hurd and the late Patrick Breaux; three great grandchildren: Gabriel J. Richard, Eve M. Petit, and Mary J. Petit; former grand-daughter-in-law: Cristiana Avellan.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Nettie Saladino; her grandparents: Joseph and Laura Saladino, Emile and Amy Breaux; her brother: Dominick Saladino and many sisters and brothers-in-law.
The family would like to thank Heart of Hospice for the excellent care. Her caregivers Burnetta (Nettie), Beatrice, Rose, Darlene, Donna, Morva, her St. Joseph the Worker Family, and many family and friends that visited her during her illness.
Her visitation will be on October 27, 2023 at Mothe Funeral Home, 2100 Westbank Expressway in Harvey from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm resuming on October 28, 2023, at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 455 Ames Blvd. in Marrero, visitation from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, Rosary recitation beginning at 9:45 am, and Tribute will follow the Rosary (No viewing during the Rosary and Tribute). The Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am. Fr. Syndey Speaks will be the celebrant and Deacon Charles Allen will be the Deacon. In lieu of flowers please have Masses said or make donations to the Neocatechumenal Mission Seminarians and Priests (make Checks Payable to NOLA Youth Pilgrams at 62 Cycas Street San Gabriel Kenner, La. 70062) or Mary's Helpers, 4512 7th Street, Marrero, LA 70072 in Jenny’s memory.
