Gary J. Marque

GARY JOSEPH MARQUE passed away unexpectedly on the afternoon of Monday August 31, 2026 at the age of 86 with his sister Margie and his son Daniel at his side. Gary was born to Willie and Beatrice Rivere Marque in White Castle, Louisiana on Leap Day, 1940, Margie followed eleven months later. The family moved to Marrero a few years after they were born. They were in the same grade, played together and worked together in a little store their parents opened in 1948. Their younger brother Willie took over the business some years later, which is now known as Marque's Foods. Gary, like most boys his age, liked cars...specifically how they worked. After high school, he worked as a mechanic for Harvey Diesel. He also served his country honorably as a diesel mechanic and expert rifleman in the United States Army. After he was discharged, he worked for Pepsi Cola for a number of years as fleet manager for the State of Louisiana. He left Pepsi and opened Marque's Leasing and Repair with his beloved wife, the late Sylvia Falgout Marque.

Sylvia and Gary were married for forty years and welcomed three children whom he loved dearly: Kevin C Marque (wife Dixie), Daniel J Marque (wife Angie) and Suzanne R Marque Berger (husband, Richard). He really enjoyed his family, particularly his grandchildren: Tyler Cortez (Megan), Devin Marque (Ayree), Austin Marque (Renee), Katherine "Katie" Marque, Gracie Marque, Emma Berger and Pierce Berger. He was also the proud Paw Paw of his great granddaughters, Lilliana and Lilah Cortez and Lucy Marque. In addition to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren he is also survived by his siblings Marjorie "Margie" Marque Hidalgo, Willie "Billy" Marque his wife Karen; Brother in-law Daryl Falgout and his wife Bobbie; Nieces: Rhonda Hidalgo and Stephanie M McGuire (Michael); Nephews Jack Friley, David Hidalgo (Lauren), Steven Marque (Hollie), his Godson Perry Hidalgo (Leah) and ten great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Sylvia and his parents, he was also predeceased by his beloved grandson Justin Breaux as well as in-laws Sidney and Rose Terrebonne Falgout and Leonard Hidalgo and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

Gary was raised in the Catholic faith, as were his children, and was a parishioner of Visitation of Our Lady Parish, and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4222.

He was also an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his friends as well as spending time at the family's "Camp T-Pat" on Grand Isle. In later years he enjoyed trips with his brother Willie to NASCAR Racing.

The family would like to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers during this most difficult time. Relatives, friends and employees and patrons of Marque's Leasing and Repair are invited to attend the funeral services on Tuesday September 8, 2026 at Mothe Funeral Home, 7040 Lapalco Boulevard in Marrero with visitation from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will be at Garden of Memories on Airline Highway in Metairie. In lieu of flowers, the family requests Mass offerings or donations to the Steve Gleason Foundation for ALS.
