Gary Joseph Laigast, a native of Algiers, LA., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 7, 2017. He was 67 years old. Gary's battle with cancer lasted 10 months. He said he would make it to St. Patrick's Day and he did, riding in the parade with his friends! Gary lived his life on his terms, always caring and helping others, volunteering countless hours to Holy Name of Mary Church, Algiers Lions Club, The Sunshine Club of Algiers, Skip's Wild Irish Clan and the Algiers Shamrock Society. Gary was a devoted husband and father married to Bonnie White Laigast for 45 and a half years. Loving father of Brandi Alicia Laigast of Austin, TX and Andrew Malcolm Laigast (Melissa Retif) and the sunshine of his life, grandson, Vincent Malcolm Tallieu of Austin, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis and Rosemary Laigast, father-in-law, Malcolm White, brother, Glen Laigast. He is survived by his brother, Guy Laigast (Claudia), sister-in-law, Peggy Edwards, mother-in-law, Lillian "Maw-Maw" White. Uncle of Celeste and Connor Laigast, Troy Laigast, Clancee (Drew Richard, Jr.) and Chance Edwards. Special great-uncle of Tucker Mullinex, Adriana Decker, and Avery Tutwiler. Also survived by a host of cousins, in-laws, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also members of the Algiers Lion Club, The Sunshine Club of Algiers, Holy Name of Mary Men's Club, Skip's Wild Irish Clan, The Algiers Shamrock Society, Algiers Irish Rebels, and employees of Regions Bank are invited to attend the Memorial Mass on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, Algiers, LA. at 1pm. A Memorial Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 11am until 1pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to The Sunshine Club of Algiers, who deliver Christmas baskets to those in need (contact Bonnie Laigast). The family wishes to thank the nurses and aides of Heart of Hospice, especially Ashley, Kay, Deandra, and Philip for the excellent care and compassion shown to Gary.
