Elder Gary Carter Sr. went home to be with the Lord on February 18th, 2017. He was born the youngest of four children on December 4th, 1946 in New Orleans, LA to Albert Carter, Sr. and Cecile Garrison-Carter. He attended Lincoln High School during his formative years and went on to marry Gloria T. Roussell on April 30, 1966.
Gary Sr. worked for many years as a Welder/Pipe fitter through the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union- Local 60 in New Orleans, LA. He eventually relocated to Bartlett, IL where he retired. He was a beloved husband and father who enjoyed golf, traveling, and spending time with his family. Gary Sr. accepted Christ in 1971 and subsequently established Christ as the unshakeable foundation for his life and family. He went on to work tirelessly serving God as a choir president, deacon, Sunday school teacher and ordained minister. He was a prolific teacher, mentor, minister and friend who always took time to teach and encourage. His family and friends will remember him most for his charming smile, funny songs and unique quotes.
Gary Sr. is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Gloria Roussell-Carter and their four children Gary Carter, Jr (Toni), Derrick Carter Sr., Crystal Carter-Guyton (Nahchon), and Richelle Carter-Bates (Kylander); 13 grandchildren, and two great grandchildren;. He is also survived by his mother Ceclile Garrison Fischer and three siblings, Beverlyn Carter, Albert Carter Jr. (Lenore) and Diane Carter-Coleman (Kenneth) and a host of sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Carter Sr.
Visitation will be held at MOTHE FUNERAL HOMES, 7040 Lapalco Blvd., Marrero, LA on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 5 PM to 8 PM. Visitation will resume at Rock of Ages Baptist Church, 6533 Acre Road in Marrero, LA on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 9 AM to 10 AM. Services will follow. Interment Restlawn Park Cemetery in Avondale, LA.
