Francis Cecil Carter, Sr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 1, 2017. Beloved husband of the late Rita Lazaroe Carter for 48 beautiful years…she was his little sweetheart.
Born August 1, 1923, he was a proud lifelong resident of Algiers. Son of the late Charles Albert Carter and Frances Hughes Carter. Brother of Leota Carter Barient and the late Charles Albert Carter, II, Alberta Carter Van and Thomas Mitchel Carter.
He graduated from Martin Behrman High School and attended Soule Business College. He was a World War II veteran serving in the Army, 785th Tank Battalion, stationed in the Phillipines. He lived for many years in Holy Name of Mary Parish in Algiers Point and served in a variety of roles in the parish’s Nucleus Organization and the Holy Name Society. Later, he was a member of St Andrew’s Parish for 44 years. Our Dad was proud to have worked for the R.J. Tricon Company for over 35 years and enjoyed the many friendships he made there, many that continued long after he retired.
At the center of his life was his family. Beloved father of six children; Francis Carter Jr., Walter Carter, Clare Engler (Don), Ann Dufrene (Errol), Susan Beyer (Tommy), and Mary Price. He is also survived by his thirteen grandchildren: Nicole (Clint), Chris (Amanda), Stephen, Jessica, Coty, Jonathan, David, Adam, Madeline, Katherine, Daniel, Brian, Lauren and three great grand-children: Cole, Liam and Evelyn. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jennifer. A kind and generous man, he took care of his late sister-in law, Dorothy Lazaroe, for many years.
Our Dad was a lover of life and never passed up an opportunity to have a good time.
His love of music, dancing and socializing afforded him the chance to make many friends and wonderful memories. He was a fantastic dancer and loved to define the success of a party by the music and the size of the dance floor! His hobbies included gardening, working puzzles, listening to his collection of Big Band music, doing things with his family, and attending “Thursdays at Twilight” at City Park.
He was an avid Saints and LSU fan—especially baseball and football. His positive attitude and fun loving nature allowed him to make friends wherever he went. He will be forever missed and memories of great times shared with him will be our treasure. We love you Daddy, Paw-Paw, G-Paw, Cecil, Old Pro, Dusenberry, Gable, Mr. We’ll See…
